The American Volksport Association (AVA) has long encouraged walking as a way to remain active and fit. AVA beleives walking can be a fun activity for young people to experience with their family and friends. To encourage youth participation AVA offers programs with local Girl Scout Troops. Illinois Trekkers is proud to sponsor three Girl Scout programs: Walk Together Master Program, Walk Together Patch Contest, and Way of Lights Walk together Event.   1. Walk Together Master Program: Illinois Trekkers has combined the AVA Walk Together Program and AVA Master Program into a single package. This combined program "Walk Together Master Program" will go thorugh the 2014-2015 school year. The scouts can participate in a minimum of six 5K walking field trips with the Illinois Trekkers walking club. Each girl scout participant will receive: 1 breakfast, 1 lunch, 1 snack, a master award medal (need to complete 6 approved walks - medal only available to first-time girl scout participants in program), and a walk together Girl Scout patch.
    • List and Description of Walks:
    • 20 September 2014 - Belleville Bicentennial Walk - Walk the Greenway through several parks. Discover art sculptures along the way. Stop at Peachy Yogurt Bar for frozen yogurt with your pick of toppings. Walk through the celebration and watch as Belleville grills the world's largest bratwurst.
    • 27 September 2014 - Maeystown Walk through this quaint historic town with its beautiful stone church and buildings. Watch as the local residents make apple butter.
    • 4 October 2014 - Lebanon - Visit the best craft fair in the county as you stroll through St. Louis Street and McKendree College.
    • 25 November 2014 - Way of Lights Walk Together Event: Pre-registration cost $4 (last day to pre-register is 31 October 2014) and $5 on night of event - Discover the Way of Lights on foot, stop for hot Russian tea. Flashlights are always fun. Trail is on safe sidewalks. Time of walk is 3 to 6pm. You must walk this event to recieve the Walk Together patch. Click Here for a guidelines.
    • 24 January 2015 - Words with Friends - Walk with our partially indoor trail and collect letters along the way. At the end see how many words you can make, win a prize!
    • 7 Februay 2015 - Soup Walk - Walk a marked trail through a neighboring city. Bring two cans of soup (each walker). One will be donated to the Food Pantry, the other will be put in the pot for poor man's soup to be shared after the walk. Soup, fresh bread and hot chocolate are included.
    • 25 April 2015 - Breakfast in a Bag Walk - YMCA, 1 Town Center Dr, Maryville, IL (Do not register at the Y - please go in back and follow signs to Drost Park). Each scout will receive a bag with one egg. You may visit the stir-in bar and choose ham, bacon, green pepper etc. to add to the bag. Put your name on the bag, squish it all together, and drop it into a boiling kettle of water and seven minutes later - Breakfast! Orange juice and a biscuit are included. Time of walk is from 8 to 9:00 am. Park at YMCA (1 Town center Dr) and take trail in back to Drost Park (pavilion #1) to register and make breakfast in a bag.

  2. Way of Lights Walk Together Event: 25 November 2014 - Earn a walk together patch by participating in our Girls Scouts Walk Together Event. Earn a patch for this one-time event. Cost is $4 per person for pre-registration (Last day to pre-register is 31 October 2014) and $5.00 for the night of the event (walk & patch). Click Here for guidelines
