- Florissant Traditional Walk

This walk will be in conjunction with Florissant’s annual Valley of the Flowers Festival which they will have this year. (It was skipped in 2020 and 2021.) Saint Louis Walkers will have a new route! Register between 9-11 at the gazebo on the grounds of Old St. Ferdinand’s Shrine. The Gateway Milers will walk as a group, probably at 9:15-9:30. Parking is on the street or in the field across from the gazebo. Dogs are welcome BUT NOT on the festival grounds, per Florissant’s regulations. If you bring your dog, we’ll have a walk-around. WELCOME TO HIGHLAND, ILLINOIS with their historic Plaza Square and beautiful tree-lined streets. Highland is one of the oldest Swiss settlements in the United States. It was founded in 1831 by Swiss pioneers from Sursee, Switzerland and has shared the title of “Sister City” with Sursee since 1976. Highland’s historic district is where the walk starts and ends with the city’s landmark fountain and Plaza Square Park. The landmark Lory Theatre is also part of the historic district. Highland is the birthplace of Pet Milk and Schott Brewery. It is the 7th safest community in Illinois!
