Historic Bellefontaine Cemetery & Arboratum Walk
Bellefontaine Cemetery4947 W Florissant Ave, St. Louis, MO 63115, USAThe St. Louis-Stuttgart Volksmarch Club invite walkers to a traditional event at Bellefontaine Cemetery. Bellefontaine Cemetery is the final resting place for some of St. Louis’ most illustrious citizens, including civic and corporate leaders, politicians and literary figures. Simple and elaborate monuments are their resting spots. The cemetery was founded as a non-sectarian burial ground in 1949 and named for nearby Fort Bellefontaine . Soon after it opened, St. Louis was ravaged by a catastrophic cholera epidemic and it was not unusual to see long lines of horse drawn hearses waiting at the entrance to enter and bury the victims of this plaque.
